Case of the Fake People

What ever happened to people? You look back in history and you have to wonder how we all got to this place. You wonder, were people ever real?
Then you sign into facebook and for the ump-tenth time are bombarded with yet another post from THAT guy. Yes, once again he is reminding his fellow men how he is such a generous, kind and thoughtful human being. He wants YOU to know that instead of going to a bar Friday night or shopping on Saturday or being lazy on Sunday that HE was the ideal utopian citizen. He spent his weekend at some charity event, no doubt where he hob-snobbed with what he thinks are the elite of the elite in the city and networked his way to paradise.
What people fail to realize is that you fall into the trap of thinking "How nice! I am such a horrible person for not getting involved." People, thats what his ego wants you to believe! He wants you to mentally praise him and follow it up with a "You go get 'em!" Then you might ask him "How can I help?" This will give him the greatest pleasure of all! Why? Because now he can show off even more by impressing you with the amount of people he knows (and by know I mean on an acquainance level.)
Can we say pompous?
Avoid these people at all costs. Nothing they do has genuine intentions and everything they do has alterior motives. They are not doing this charity because they really care about the cause? It looks good on paper and it gives them an opportunity to schmooze with Bunny and Jim.
What happened to people doing things for the sake of the cause?
